The bits on the edge of the first layer of the wheat farm will destroy the crops anyway because waters going straight down unto them, You should put the lighting there.

i mean the spots where you couldnt plant crops since the water fell down on it. Instead of installing moving groung with piston you could just put a light source there and not move it. Then the water will fall on the light wich will not destroy any plants.
