Do redstone lamps inside the eyes and do light sensors so at night the eyes glow.

That’s what I would do and a transition line of dark gray wool between the stone and the black wool to emphasize the optical illusion

They should implement some kind of steam dispenser. Mist coming out of the mouth would look awesome.

imho, redstone torches, blocks or lamps would be better as the fire would spread to the wool. MF would have to replace all the black wool with obsidian or netherbrick to make netherrack or lava feasible

I think you should have lava, but it only flows at night, and goes away in the day.
