Maybe make an RS Nor Latch instead of the lever and kill them with one hit with your fist, or a potion.

don’t mess up with your fortune pickaxe a lot because it’s hard to find fortune3 pickaxes.always carry a second diamond pickaxe and use the good one only for ores like diamonds,redstone,coal,lappis(not iron and gold)

In 1.3 you will need leather for each book, so be prepared. I suggest you make a book storage somewhere in your enchanting room.
