That is a weird end of the line startup system, its much simpler to use a flat station:
=====+++=+X where
= is normal rail
+++ permanently powered power rail for acceleration
+ non powered power rail
X 2 blocks with a button above the power rail.

Also a note that if redstone is scarce you can use levers (stick+stone) to power powerrails permanently

I think I’m going to have to make rails myself at some point, Paul. I’ve always preferred the Nether for travel, but the problem with the Nether is that you can’t use it for freight.
