    Wait, what about the saplings that fall onto the four dirt blocks in the middle? Yes, I know you could pick them up, but that would kinda defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it?

    after you have cut down the tree you could remove the dirt blocks :-) they wont take long to put back when u need to use it again

    he explained it, the chest is smaller the a block so the saplings will get stuck on it and won’t get to the hoppers.

    Also if you realy want to you can switch the walls with dispensers with buckets in them and hook it up to a lever or something to turn the water on and off, this way you will not have to deal with the annoying sound of the flowing water when your not useing the machine, and you will be able to get out of it easely when your done cutting the tree off.
