Why a block swapper? You can just use a piston that pulls the full block
down/ to the side?! Works perfectly fine as well… You can for example
place this chest next to a wall, hide a piston underneath the wall, chuck a
button on the wall or any other kind of redstone input. Done!

cant you just use a piston to remove the full block instead of swapping
it?
