Cobblestone would be the best option for concealing, it has the least repetitive pattern and would blend in better.

Pretty slick. I never really took that into consideration when the stairs were able to be connected in that manner.

The visual glitch is orientation specific. If you had tried it in the other two directions you would have found that it is completely undetectable.
