Minecraft Essentials – Combat Technique: Sprint Strike
Welcome to Minecraft Essentials, a series of tips and tricks helpful to veterans and newbies delivered in bite-size videos. Your ability in combat can be vastly improved with a little bit of knowledge here and there. Knowledge of this ‘Sprint Strike’ and how it can be used effectively can greatly boost your effectiveness in any combat situation, especially if you’re unarmed. Sprinting is a feature in Beta 1.8, which allows the player to run faster, around 5.6 meters/second. This is about 30% faster than the normal walking speed of around 4.3 m/s. The player sprints by double tapping the “Forward” key (W by default) and then holding it. It is possible to jump across four blocks horizontally (although difficult), instead of the usual two blocks by sprinting, however the jump height is no higher than normal. If the player hits a mob while sprinting, the Mob is knocked back much further away, similar to the effect of a “Knockback I” enchantment on a sword.
