Two of those dirt piles can make a dirt slab, you could have slowing made
your way up that hill. :)
And hardcore spawn is designed to encourage players to make multiple small
outposts where they spawn and/or build enough infrastructure (roads,
because remember you travel faster on certain materials, I.e. use less
food) to connect them to the main base.
But it’s ok, a lot of MC players have a hard time breaking the habit of
trying to immediately run home.
