Dying is actually a lot more interesting if you make an effort to survive
rather than just wandering in a random direction. If you can work your way
back up to a compass, you can find your way home again, and with each
death, you’ll be further developing your world making future deaths easier
to recover from. Right now, you’re largely negating the gameplay and
progression involved in death by hoping to just get lucky and find your way
home.

It is only thunderstorms that break gearboxes now. Thunderstorms are
escalations of normal rain conditions rather than their own instance so you
will always have a warning before your mill goes into overpower.
