You could try something like Penumbra: Overture. Kind of a bit Half-life meets lovecraft feel to it. It’s by the guys who made the infamous Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but I personally think Penumbra Overture is a fantastic game.

Man, those turrets were going to town. That was a really nice solution. I can’t believe it worked as well as it did. These defense areas were some of the worst parts of the game, in my opinion. Didn’t enjoy them at all.

Oddly enough, this last turret sequence is easier than that cell block one. A good idea would be to set up turrets in one part of the room, covering two adjacent(?) exits, while you and Alyx take care of the others. This way turrets can focus fown soldiers really fast, and cover each other. Also, you won’t need to run across the whole room to reposition them.
