My favorite texture packs are: John smith, zelda texture pack (by a guy named aelx or somthing like that), and Halo minecraft wars. Yes some of them are outdated but try them our or use paint.net to help you update them.

finally catching up on vids (finally done moving too). yours are some of the shorter ones (and just as enjoyable as the longer ones) so i can catch up in no time flat.
i use Misa’s texture pack. it’s 64×64 HD and requires a very good computer/graphics card to run.

Off chance you haven’t fixed the issue with your laptop heating up, I used to have the same issue (dell latitude d830) Often times the culprit of this is that there is a mega-dustbunny wedged into the heatsink/radiator by the fan exhaust outlet. I saw you got a new computer so this would be a good time to learn to take apart computers and clean them. There’s several guides online on how to clean your heatsink and fan. Basically its just screws and a little bit of time, if I can, you deff. can.
