Had an idea while watching, why dont you replaces the Cobble in on your stair case with Netherbrick, the Wooden stairs with Netherbrick Stairs, the Wood in the middle with Netherbrick fence going all the way up, and instead of Wooden Slabs use Glowstone.

theres kind of a NATURAL ARCH WHERE THE SUN IS WHEN IT sets i say make an arch where it sets so u can watch it like a tv =]
