Oh Gizmo xP This isn’t in the past. In the single player campaign of portal 2, you play as Chell, after the first portal game. The multiplayer campaign takes place after the single player campaign :P No worries though, the multiplayer doesn’t spoil any single player stuff :3

It isn’t in the past. At a point in Portal 2, GLaDOS says that she was phasing out human testing before you blew her up in the first. Chell was the last human tester, and when she left, GLaDOS had to find other ways of testing. She built robots that will never complain or break her heart and kill her.
