@LevanEvan They are there to add a second redstone tick of delay so that the centre piston has time to retract, so necessary.

@anistuffs This design is not because you need the redstone dots at the pistons to stay dots (where they act like the crosses from before 1.0.0). When you tile these together, those dots become lines and it screws up the timing of the swap
