You lose diamonds since 2 will stack and the 2nd one you trown in will atract and give the 1st one time to burn.

You just have to have a designated area for them to spawn, eliminate the possibility of spawning within a certain radius, and hit one of them (Preferably with a bow) and when they come running at you, have them fall down a pit to their death/collection point.

Yah there is a way. They are fairly simple to make the problem is finding a good spot in a lava lake as it helps keep the spawn rates up.
