Love the house! The green house/conservatory room is my favorite thing to
look for in old architecture. You would also find an eagle above the door
of most of those houses.. It meant they had paid the house off in full.
House that only had part of their eagle meant they had not paid off the
government for the full house.
The down stairs is beautiful with your modern ceiling. It is a touch dark..
As most family would traditionally stick with a light ceiling. Energy to
light the house was costly and they would use white on the ceiling to let
the light reflect without heating up the house from dark colors.
Stair case is beautiful as well.. The carpet on top feels weird though.
Almost out of place. But I like the anvils as it shows there were high
class people that lived in the house (bigger staircases meant you had money
for them, same with the banisters. The more detail and broader they were:
the more money you had. The thinner they were: the less money you had.)
Dark blues, rich reds, and luscious greens also proved you had more money.
It was hard to dye things that color during colonial times. It took many
dips in the dye bath to get wool that dark, which mean it cost more. Red
was the most costly, and often times only seen in more stately manors.
Given the size of the house I feel like the introduction of more reds would
be fitting. Along with more dark greens.
Sorry for the long post. I am a design/ art history major.
