    I think Minecraft and the mods reset all the sound settings when a
    different version is loaded. I use 1.6.4 for Pixelmon and 1.7.x for general
    building and I have to reset audio and texture/resource packs every time.
    This seems even more prevalent when going from Single to Multi and back.
