To fix it add an extra dropper facing up in to the bottom of the system and a hopper facing in to the new dropper. Now use a comperator facing into a block to pull the signal from the hopper, finally place a redstone dust on the block so it will invert the torch when powered and it will work. By pulling a signal from the hopper it gives that first pulse the system needs to start.

The hoppers are there to act as a clock it seems.
I apologize if this is not the case, I didn’t get all of the information in the video throught my brain.

You can have your hoppers going into a dropper which passes it to the bottom of the elevator.

Well, one use would be to carry drops from farms up to a convenient collection point. Also I can see this being useful for storage systems, if you need items to go to chests that are higher than your input chest. There’s lots of uses for item elevators.

Yup, just replaced my old design with this one, and… it doesn’t work :'(

This design is useless for those who wanted to hopper input to the elevator as the elevator will stop any item going through it due to the powering of the redstone

The hopper is for a clock you n00b. It’s not for puting items in the elevator….
