You don’t need to replace the sand with air. Just summon a FallingSand at the exact coords of the blocks, with Time:0 and Motion tags. It will make THAT block jump.

It was not a mod in the old version of minecraft the pistons threw falling entities in the air

Holy buckets. Who in the name of notch gave that thumbs down. Maybe their thumbs were too weak from too much xbox. (I only have xbox version btw before anybody starts) ;)

a long time ago in the beta of minecraft, the original pistons could do that sand wave, it wasn’t just a mod, mojang made those pistons, but then they changed it.
