For traveling horizontal I think ice speed rails made for horses.
To do that, you would need to make a 2 by 4 big tunnle.
1st layer is ice, 2nd layer is trapdoor, 3th layer is air and 4th layer is a block where you would not sufficate in like glass, slabs (not upside down) etc.
But an enderpearl tnt canon could also get close to this..

Does the type of armour depend on how much the enchantment percentage protects you? For example does the protection one on a diamond chestplate have more of a protection increase than protection one on diamond boots.
