So in Australia, you have plans for how much data you use?
Because in America, it’s the speed, not the amount used.

Thought you would like to hear my internet story as you told us yours…
Alright, so where I live just out of the nearest town I am unable to get
ADSL of any kind. So because that was the case, we originally went with
Activ8 for Satellite internet. Now as you can imagine, that isn’t great at
all. So after some several years of being with Activ8, they proposed to us
NBN Satellite; NBN Satellite was supposed to give us 12 down and atleast 1
up, but that was a complete lie. The reason it was so slow is because the
Satellites were so congested because of everyone using the internet via
satellite. Their max plan was 60 gigabytes (30 off-peak and 30 peak). Even
the cost for only 60 gigs was a bit pricey but we went with it because that
was the only option at the time.
Now with a son (me) being a super heavy user, I would use up the 60 gigs
within 2 weeks and then be stuck with complete shit speeds for the rest of
the month, not like they were any good in the first place.
So, I went and found myself a job, whilst still at school I bought myself a
3G Internet modem and would buy at a time, 3 Gigs for $50.
The 3 gigs would last me for around 3 days. So every three days I would
fork out a bunch of money for more allowance just so I could get online
with semi-decent speeds.
Every week and every month I would contact almost every ISP just to see if
there was anything else available and if I could get it in my area, which
the answer was always the same, No.
I was desperate to get better allowance for a cheaper price, so I firstly
decided Telstra would be the ones I would go with, simply because their
coverage is better than any others in my area.
So I bought myself a 4G Telstra Elite Modem with originally 15 gigabytes
(on a plan for $10p/gigabyte, so in total: $150p/month).
But as you can imagine with being a super heavy user, this was not enough.
I contacted Telstra and raised the allowance to 25 gigabytes for the same
pricing ($10p/gigabyte, so in total $250p/month). But still being in the
first month, around 3 weeks in, I had used the 25 gigabytes. So once again
I contacted Telstra and bought a Data pack of an extra 10 gigabytes, so 35
gigs.
So, to this day I only have a total of 35 gigabytes to somehow spread
throughout the month evenly, which is impossible.
So whenever I run out of data, I go back to the 3G modem and pay $50 each
couple days until the next month when my quota restarts.
Now my career choice wants to be YouTube, but it’s nearly impossible as you
could imagine…
And there will be people reading this with Unlimited Internet with the
speeds of light and knowing that makes me a bit sad inside because I am
spending over $300 per month for no where near unlimited internet and still
with shocking internet, whereas most people are only spending $80 per month
for Unlimited Internet.
