Xray is a mod, you can do anything with mods, so it can still work.

17:24 if you want to go technical, xisuma, what is happening is that the
world is actually loaded as normal, the difference is that 1.8 will use
your CPU threads to calculate exactly what cube faces are visible (Voxel
engines usually do this, it was weird that Minecraft has only recently
gained this style of culling).
So when you’re in a cave, everything you can’t see is still loaded, but
right at the rendering level it will not select areas that are loaded, but
not visible.
So in 1.7 it was: If it’s loaded, draw it
In 1.8+ it is: If it’s loaded, use threads to check if it’s visible, if
it’s also visible then draw it
1.8.0 will only update the camera frustum used for the basic culling (“Is
it in front of us”) when the camera is moved, this is why pressing F5
without moving the mouse will show invisible areas or changing the FOV in
settings, in versions after 1.8.0 the frustum is updated when FOV is
changed and when F5 is pressed.

Just before the server crash , there was ‘Xisuma’ next to the portal? Was
that a bug before the server crashed or was he on a camera account or
something?

Emeralds, diamonds, and lapis should all be the same. Diamonds and lapis
are equally rare and equally useful. Emeralds are very useful with rare
villagers and are the rarest ore to mine.

Since you are playing on amplified I think most of time (including the
other team) you will be in extreme hills and therefor find emeralds
