Too many of practically anything not a regular block can slow down SSP and SMP… The OP was referring to hoppers though.. In terms of comparators, they’re actually better than repeaters since there are no light updates with them.. A lot of repeaters and redstone can create a lot of lag due to all the lighting updates. Every redstone tick, the game has to updates pretty much a 31x31x31 area around every piece of redstone and repeater.

Can baby zombies go through it?

Pretty sure they’ll only keep chunks loaded if they’re setup in a certain way on chunk boundaries. But they have to be run in a chain from some actively loaded chunks like the spawn chunks.
Hoppers are generally better than repeater type clocks as they don’t have all the lighting updates associated with them.. I actually had an issue on my server and switching out the repeater clock with a hopper one got rid of the lag.

Hey guys we are a new gaming channel that is focusing on minecraft for now just to get us started. I would really appreciate it if you would check out our channel and maybe drop a sub.
At the moment we have no vids but thats because we are waiting to hit 50 subs and are just getting all our software together and organized. Could really use your help on growing our channel so please have a look and sub. We are organizing all our channel and thats why we are waiting till we hit 50 subs to upload.

The only reason I can see why it’s not SMP friendly is a shitty server, but I have never had issues with mine

You can add an easy lock, just add a corner above the hopper clock and use a hopper minecart to put an item into the clock, then remove the item when you get inside.
