No, he actually copied it upside down. You can see thrue ice you know. I just figured it out :P. but he also uses some shading tricks in his map

The 3 means mob level. The 1 above the player icon represents number of players.

Use double gold in the early rounds to get some income, then start worrying about upgrades.
