Yeah, but they use an anvil , as they said, to combine a 1-kill dragon shard and a tier 5 other shard to make a tier 5 dragon shard.

It would be pointless, but make an iron farm. You could automate making it a little bit with the builders.

Make a wither skeleton spawner because they drop coal and there is a wag to diamonds from about a stack of coal. With the spawner you could probably get about a diamond a minute or more, with good power
