Map Making – The Arena: Episode 4
Let’s make a map! The goal of this series is to build a PvP arena of sorts, that is capable of a few specific technical functions needed for my game. This series will likely focus on the designing and technical aspects of the map instead of the aesthetics. Today we work on the pregame platform, planning out the count down timer and team randomizer.

My evidence is based on simulations I ran so I can’t quote any sources for you. :/ However it’s not hard to see what’s going on in an extreme example. Take two stacks of 16 items. Put them in a dispenser and hook the dispenser up to a clock. Open up the dispenser while it’s firing and you’ll notice that typically one of the stacks runs out while the other still has several blocks left (4.5 on average). Once one of the stacks runs out all remaining players will get put on the same team.

I have a small idea but I don’t know if you would like it. But the idea is that every team gets a colour and they will get a leather hat or leather boots dyed in that colour. So when you fight in the arena you actually know who to hit and who not. Or you and your team could finish of one whole team before passing on to the next.
Thanks for reading.

Hey Etho,
There is a problem with this countdown timer. If people send too many on/off lever signals the system becomes confused. Sethbling explains it in his video “Redstone Repeater Locking in Minecraft Snapshot 12w42a” time: 6.28.

Ethos is one of the three parts (ethos, pathos and logos)of retoric learn that Aristoteles talked about in the antique. It’s about compassion, reliability, etc. Hope you understand, my english is not that great! :)

I’m not sure if you’ll see this Etho, but in the future I think you should set up a small server to allow beta testers to try and iron out any bugs within your map. Things you may overlook.

I only think it’s a slight difference, and they might have even changed that, but I’m pretty sure there was a difference.
