Map Making – The Arena: Episode 1
Let’s make a map! The goal of this series is to build a PvP arena of sorts, that is capable of a few specific technical functions needed for my game. This series will likely focus on the designing and technical aspects of the map instead of the aesthetics. Today we work on designing 5 minute timers that can visually and audibly show to the players clearly how much time is remaining. Note: I did figure out how to do the horizontal timer after I finished recording.

TIP:
You can get extremely long timers with redstone using 3 or 4 clocks going to a 3 or 4 way AND gate, so it only works when they are all on which means the least common multiple of the 3 or 4 clocks. For example 3 clocks with 7, 9 and 11 repeaters set at 4 give you: 7*9*11*4/10 = 277.2 sec ~ 4.6 min, but it does take up a lot of space.
I didn’t come up with it, I found it here: watch?v=hr4ZVTTUk0s

I think the lights on the timer tower should be inverted. So it as it counts down less lights are lit.

Try making the horizontal timer out of a zombie! Have a zombie chase a testificate through slowsand/ice and maybe even have a slowness potion on him.

Etho use minecarts with a lava pit beneath to destroy items. Like to let him see

Etho, you should try to use a minecart clock and some testing. You can make it go in circle or something, and every 30 seconds send 1 signal that will power 1 lamp, after 10 lamps(5 minutes) minecart stops and wait for reset

This inspired me to start my own map thank you

the item should be a weapon or armor that would give players an advantage so when the item drops there is an incentive to fight, (to get or prevent others from getting the item)

hey man loved the vid and liked it :) i make videos just like this and was wondering if you could check them out and tell me what you think. please get back to me bro :)

Etho, I think the best way to make an exact 5 minute timer is to have a dispenser with a pressure plate in front and put 1 of any item in it and when the item de-spawns (while on the pressure plate) then it will start everything. Thanks for the vids!

the map probably gets reset every time it’s played, if it’s somewhat similar to almost any other pvp map

Etho, while you are looking at minigame things.. I invented a way to make 260+ stacks of irong BLOCKS an hour from iron golems without any villagers, dinnerbone needs to fix this badly! Works in the current snapshot still, on front page of channel if you want to see (Sorry you can’t comment with links!), make sure you DONT make this on mindcrack, it can crash a server inside 20 mins! (After 6 mins you will have 600+ Iron golems!)
