How about pushing the blaze to the side, maybe up a stair? Then they shouldn’t fall through the moving block.

Lapis makes a really good accent on the corners of sandstone walls. Good for detailing

for 1.3 you should be able to have an armour enchantment that lets you hold more than 64 in a stack, or that gives you a bigger inventory

For the crushing spot just have them come up and arc over so they fall where you want them

Lapis blocks look good with obsidian and sandstone

To solve the viewing area you can move that glass wall one towards the spawner. This way there’s a smaller amount of available blocks for spawning, but since the wall is solid from the second row of pistons up to the ceiling there won’t be any platform for the Blaze to get stuck on.
Also, for the crushing, can’t you move them to the side and drop them down like you do with normal mobs? And have them stand on a fence or something for easy killing.
