These arrays act a whole lot like capacitors in electronic circuits.

You can make a slower one. At the end adding a block in front of the last comparator facing the end and then the comparators going back to the start are just one after each other. v=^= (comparator) [] = block x = redstone. This basically means that it will just minus one each ‘loop’ rather than 2 in your current design.
