DayZ is currently a mod for ARMA2 Combined operations. they will be separating from ARMA 2 and making DayZ into its own game. still the same game just better and not a mod for ARMA 2. it is supposed to be released in December this year.

By the way The War Z has got perma-death on Hardcore mode. On normal you still lose all your items, but you get to keep the experience earned during the game (that is why it has a lockout).
And I fully agree it is to much deathmatch at the moment, but that’s the best thing about Alpha’s, they can fix it before release.

At this point save your money and wait for WarZ. If WarZ sucks then Arma 2 will probably be cheaper.
