You should make a dock, so that it’ll be easier to get back home. Or you could put some boats in a dispenser and press a button to get a boat.

Try to find a village! And then go back to the mountain and check if it’s a “biome: extreme hills” (F3-mode as well), dig for some emerald (hopefully get some) and then trade with villagers. If you didn’t get any emerald, still trade with them *Yay*

Your original map is going to be mostly water, I’m afraid :-( You’re in the middle of a large bay that leads to open ocean to the northwest (mushroom island thataway, btw). You were headed to the east village/pyramid at first, you hit on the mountains, just need to go left from there, across a small bay, then around a small desert peninsula, through a swamp, then to the mouth of a river, take the left branch north-east, until it bends back south again, head north into the desert from there.

Oh yeah, that small desert peninsula also has a pyramid on it, go south east through the forest from there to another desert and another pyramid.
I don’t envy you getting those animals back to your main base, even through the nether.

With the new snapshot you could make a Nether portal, travel to the newly discovered land, lure the animals through the portal with you and take them back to your island.
