Etho Plays Minecraft – Episode 158: Pulse Extender
Today I show the holding and killing chamber design I came up with for the Blaze farm. I also try to solve a delay problem I always have with Pulse Extenders because we need one for the Silverfish Factory. Sorry, I made a mix up. SirRobHiFi not Xisuma. @Ethoslab I wonder if you could make a secound vertical smothstone column next to the silverfish tray to higher chances of them goin in on of them and they wont be too many then.

@itsmeevry1 I think that in an enclosed width non-netherrack blocks space in the Nether you can achieve lower light levels.

to prevent jamming you could hook up a timer…. for example, there is a 90% chance that a silverfish will enter a block within 20 seconds, so set up a timer (additionally to the bud) who resets the system every 20 seconds. or simply lower the spawning rates, it seems that the system is too slow to handle such a amount of mobs….

You could try delaying the power from the bud switch to the smooth stone generator so the speed the pistons fire can be regulated. That way, the silverfish shouldn’t be able to enter the block before the bud switch resets.

@Aryajmarya In the top rightish area there is a thing saying: E: 145/425. Those aren’t the exact numbers, but it’s something like that. “E” stands for entities, which are all LOOSE blocks “bobbling” on the ground and mobs (passive and hostile) :]

SirRobHifi came up with the perfect solution to the “back up” issue using a minecart. you should check it out. And the lag issue is due to you going in and out of range of the splashing sound the silverfish are making.

If you want a pulse that is at least 4 ticks, just put a repeater on 4 (it will wait 4 ticks and then send a signal 4 ticks or the lengt of the incoming pulse, whats the highest)

One simple idea to make it stable: Instead of letting them suffocate (and giving them the chance of entering the next smooth stone block), have those silverfish that glitch through the block fall into a small lavapit. Your spawn rates should be high enough to keep the efficiency up, and too heavy amounts of silverfish will be dealt with by dropping a few into the lava every time until there’s a “normal” amount of silverfish waiting to enter a block again.

Why are you worried about light level 3 seeping into the blaze farm?
Isn’t the ambient light level of the nether 8?

nice troll etho, like always :D
March 18th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
etho keep pressing f3 when he wants to find out how many mobs there are. Where does it say it?

Have you tried bringing the silverfish one block down instead of one block up with your delayed piston ? The only moment when they should be able to glitch will be when the piston goes back up and if it happens, they will come back up at the next down / up piston cycle or suffocate if this takes too long to get another down / up piston cycle.
Also, don’t feel sorry for the “borring moments”, they are not really borring :)
