Melting the snow and boiling the water are two different processes, Paul.
First you melt the snow to get unsafe water, then you boil it. Water
tablets are better left for when you have little to no fuel for fires left.
For foraging, you have up there the “tinder”, “softwood” and “hardwood”
tabs. You were only getting tinder plugs because you kept exclusively to
the tinder tab.
Don’t use books and newspaper as tinder themselves, *harvest* them into
tinder plugs. One newsprint gives 3 plugs, and the books are either that or
more.
Those potbelly stoves in the shacks may not give you three arrows back in
cold like a closed office with a stove would, but they beat those cabins
without heating by a nautical mile. Just don’t forget to forage wood for
fueling it while you snooze!
COLD IS A KILLER. It reduces your stamina, kicks your condition to rock
bottom, and as the cold bar increases, you get hungrier and thirstier over
time, AND food and water recover less of your basic needs. Therefore, if
you want to survive for more than three episodes, *warm yourself up* before
doing *anything* to recover stats.
As people said, currently this game is a first-person roguelike that WILL
get tedious with time. You can never win in this, only stall death for as
long as possible.
This game needs a plot, and an element of linear exploration. Floundering
about at random is only fun to a certain point.

Pablo Punchwood is such a Renaissance man… Con, Soarvivor, Naturalist
and, er, other stuff. I’d totally make him my pen pal but Cheryl might kick
my butt. ;)

If “knowing how to do it and when” is the name if the game, why do most
people call it “the long dark”?

-30F (-34.4C) (windchill not included) is the cooldest I have been out in.
(I am swedish :))
It is manageble with the right clothing (but Punchwood does not have the
right clothes though)
The easiest temperature to convert between F and C is -40. Because -40C =
-40F :)

Don’t forget the fishing holes, you have a tool to chop the hole and
fishing line right?

you left like a hook or lockpick on that desk at around 8:03 Paul. Just
wanted to tell you so you might go back and grab it.

You can probably find food by killing deer with the knife.

I agree with you on the art style. For some reason, I find it rather
appealing. And for some reason, I find this game rather appealing to watch;
I think most would consider I boring but I quite enjoy your walkthrough. :)

15 degrees celsius isn’t even that cold, but its interesting to see how
video games depict coldness

Hate these games, the prealpha/beta crap. I know Paul gets paid to
“advertise” but so far none of the games ever get finished and become
vaporware. The devs put just enough in for people to buy then they run with
the money to another half finished mess.
This game has existed in this state a year and Dev won’t finish, its pretty
much abandoned

You can boil unsafe water to sterilize it! Also, you can harvest different
kind of wood; the options are at the top of the harvesting menu.

-15 degrees Celsius sounds like a normal winter for me.
