Why Hoppers Don’t Always Take Items From Chest-Minecarts And Hopper-Carts – Minecraft

Why Hoppers Don't Always Take Items From Chest-Minecarts And Hopper-Carts - MinecraftHoppers don’t accept items all the time, but rather at specific time intervals, so carts must be traveling over hoppers at specific tick-based times to deposit an item. They are ‘active’ approximately every 8 ticks, or around 3 times a second, and hopper-carts work at twice the rate. The ‘active’ timings are also offset by the hoppers position in the world, but I’m not sure how. This information was provided by Dinnerbone himself, although he remained vague about the specific details. Before Dinnerbone’s confirmation, I had theorized that something like this was happening, and set up these tests to see if I could find any pattern between cart departure time and the hoppers intake timings. Clear patterns emerged when under controlled conditions, although there were some odd patterns here and there, mostly when using hopper-carts. Perhaps if those tests were longer, patterns would be there too. I’m unsure of the in/out timings for other item carrying things like furnaces, chests and dispensers.

If you Push 4 minecarts throug the lines all 1 redstonde tick later, then you woult have an pattern, all items counted together, of 2|2|3|3|2|2|3|3|…
so if you would run 8 lines with minecarts, two groups of 4, that are everytime one tick later, and the both groups 2 ticks time in between, you would get an perfect pattern of 5 on all of the 8 hoppers
i hope, someone can understand that, i’m not that good in explaining an in english either :D

Dinnerbone just tweeted, that he made Hoppers more consistent.
“I’ve changed the timing mechanism for hoppers, they should be that much more reliable/predictable now. Hopefully!”

the 2 blocks of air is maybe the end and the begin of a new chunk? (16 blocks)

And by Hermitcraft chat i don’t suppose you mean the official #hermitcraft IRC channel on Quakenet? Dinnerbone is there as well, but I don’t think I have seen you around there :(

But nice science video otherwise :)

  16. kanethornwyrd Says:

You basically found a way to get somewhat consistent results !!! GG !

  17. RaPeX België Says:

That’s what was causing the problems with your “smelter” i guess :D

Thanks for the Video ! It helps a lot to understand how hoppers work ! Keep on doing those tests and maybe make tutorials ;-)
