What you can do: each member can choose one favourite mod from the list in FTB, and choose one or more objects from them, and craft/use them. (Example: IndustrialCraft2, Macerator/Generator/Compressor)
Alternative idea: (for those who do not know the mods at all) let them browse in NEI until they see something they like, then try to legitly craft it (no item ordering through NEI) and use it.
But most of all… enjoy FTB!
