I think the trapped chest has to be directly next to something to power it

Looks like the trapped chest emit a short pulse signal of 2-3 block of length only, can hook a repeater to it to extend it, check out Docm77 review on te snapshot ;)

The trapped chest emits a very weak redstone signal, so your line was too long for the current to hit the lamp.

Xisuma the trapped chest is working only the restone pulse is really short if you put one restone (or you put ihere your restone lamp) and then one repeater and then your redstone to your restone lamp it worked, if you look goed you see particels :)
