For the process to be faster, sorround them with iron bars and 1 bed. (First throw the weakness potion and then right click him with the golden apple, the one that you make with gold nuggets)

Paul, you can enchant your pick to have Silk Touch and mine redstone. Redstone ore emits light when hit or in contact with a mob. Put redstone or in the ground as lighting and it’ll be lighter than torches when you hit it.
