I think i know why this Cocabean thing is like that: because you use a smart piston the wood gets transparent for a moment and the game doesn´t realise that the beans can´t be there.
after the pistons stops moving the beans are safe but if you fill the wohole woodlog one of the beans brake and the beans get a block update. Thats all

If the block above is a stair or half slab then the chest will open, solid blocks stop it.
