Items only despawn in the nether if it is loaded. So if you dump them through a portal you can pick them up on your next trip though.

You can expose the book enchanting even more by doing the same but with a stick and it will never break!

18 is the minimum level assuming a book’s enchantability is the lowest possible. Which from 3 stacks of books in a creative world, it seems to be 1 or 2.

The new snapshot would be helpful for choosing potions if you have multiples in your hotbar. That could be one idea.
