thats not possible. because a piston can only push 13 blocks. this including the 5 blocks of the elevator will give you a maximum range of about 8 blocks and each. another difficulty is that the lines that will activate the pistons, will intersect at a certain point making this whole elevator even more complicated to wire it up. I recommend this elevator design for short distances just like in my example.

for larger distances, you will need something like a caterpillar. watch: 7-XqBcc0fWg

i tried it out and it can damage you. but that is fixable if you add a bit more delay to each level. you will need to change the wiring a bit to add in the extra repeaters.

so yes it does work. but you should just make it a bit slower
