That’s the despawning condition. The 144*144 sq. area affects mob spawning. Oh yeah, it’s cube area not square area my bad.

actually i use a way different system that is simpler, and more efficient because it adds to the spawn area dramatically. Simply make a 12×12 or 14×14 area and in the middle put a 3×3 hole, i have NEVER seen anyone build a 3 wide hole in one of their systems, then just do the usual water stuff, and it works very well, because of the extra space for mobs to fall they don’t clog up, and you can get spiders as well. Only one layer of this has a faster drop rate than his entire system. I have never

you also gain squid out of it, if youre far enough away from water (at first i was kinda confused and thought some of the mobs drop inksac as a rare drop, lol)
