The first thing i did on that place with a fan is putting a brick into the frame around the spindel. This stopped it on the first try.
You should try Antichamber. Don’t make a Let’s Play of it, just play it. This game is really able to shift your way of thinking in such a manner that conventional FPS puzzles won’t ever slow you down. And, at the same time, it’s not a hardcore puzzle game.

If they don’t actually fall over and do that “final panicked bullet spray” they can still reactivate and start shooting you. Not to mention the panic bullets might hit you if it lands facing you. So it’s good to be careful with turrets.
