In NEI you can decide to not spawn items and use the trash bin and toggle downfall or you have the recipe mode were you can lookup the recipe of an item instead of using a wiki page.

FTB is updated to 1.4, with support of the modders

Really if you want an updated tekkit FTB is the way to go, but Tekkit has things FTB doesn’t.
Like the condenser, etc.
