use mc edit to change the biome just around the mushroom to a mushroom biome and the mushrokms will spread faster

I’m assuming people have already answered this question but if not the answer is yes. if you are backing up your minecraft just copy the minecraft.jar file, but if you are backing up your world just copy your world folder.
