Etho- the silverfish in water lag might either be caused by Minecraft’s outdated version of LWJGL or the particles. Have you tried turning down/off the particles?

then you are ether in a snapshot your self or you haven’t updated yet, in 1.2.5 you can’t do it dude.

Etho, why not make it so you can have the water flowing with a despenser in the silverfish farm so you can turn off the water every once in a while?
