If you dont use soul sand the boat will stay in place and there is a higher chance of it breaking :)

Why do you use soulsand? Soulsand is the sworn enemy for all sailors in Minecraft! In theory, you “fall” a little bit for every block you travel by boat. Whenever your boat touches soulsand, all this “falling” affects you by hurting you. In practice, this means that if you have been out on a trip, and you go back into your boat dispenser, you will die instantly from fall damage when you touch the soulsand! You can see that in the video as well. I think you should do something, John.

When you do the mob detection but ice under the soulsand and mobs will walk even slower
